2023 Winner Announcement!

Over 300 students and recent graduates participated in Resin Architecture's 2023 student design competition, Rethinking the City.

Resin Architecture is excited to announce the winners and recognize their achievements!

1st Place

Project Name: The Forest
Who: Kerem Aydın, Onur İlgöz, and Kaan Eyüboğlu
Where: Baskent University in Ankara, Turkey

The project's concept, The Forest, groups housing units that are modeled as trees into a forest collection. A green roof on each building provides a canopy for the site. Thinner, sturdy trunks bring mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services to the buildings. The structures face different directions, creating walking paths and natural angles. The team focused on incorporating nature into the development and connecting the site to the rest of the city. This award comes with a $3,000 prize.

2nd Place

Who: Gonglin Yang
Where:
Sichuan University Jinjiang College in Meishan, China

The project's concept uses natural geometry. The curves of the design bring nature up to the building, inviting everyone in Idaho Falls to use the public spaces found on several elevations. The concept demonstrates an understanding of human scale, and the proposed solutions plan for future growth and connecting the city’s hubs of activity. This award comes with a $1,500 prize.

3rd Place

National University of Engineering in Lima, Peru

The project's concept creates the feel of a neighborhood in a commercial area. The design board diagrams are easy to understand, and the design plans for both vehicular and pedestrian access. This award comes with a $500 prize.

The project's concept places a children’s museum deep into the site, encouraging visitors to shop at retailers located between the entrance and the museum. The rock park matches aspects of nature present along the river in Idaho Falls, and landscape design is integrated into the site, blending nature with the built environment. The design board demonstrates a well-researched approach to the project. This award comes with a $250 prize.

The project's design board uses the rule of thirds to draw attention to important information, including how the site integrates with the rest of the community. The team designed with native plants that will thrive in the region. This award comes with a $250 prize.

The project's concept draws the Snake River through the site, creating a captivating place to live and shop. The research depicts the use of logic to determine the placement of various space uses. The project’s concept and name, “Tri-daho,” are creative and witty. This award comes with a $250 prize.
