Kayla Duclos
Urban Designer - City of Boise, ID
Hi! My name is Kayla Duclos. I am a designer with interests spanning across many fields. These stem from love of creating art, exploration of the natural environment, scientific experimentation and curiosity into what makes things work. I believe design is successful only when it inquires different focuses of study, emerging from the intersection of existing complex systems.
My graduate studies in Architecture at the University of Idaho focused on the Urban environment’s intersection with natural ecosystems, including riparian ecology, to imagine an Urbanism that works to heal rather than harm.
After working for a couple local architecture firms, I accepted a role as the City of Boise’s very first Urban Designer at a very exciting time of implementation of a new zoning code. I serve as a bridge between municipal planners and the design world, translating through intuitive visuals what the city’s built environment could become.
I have experience teaching Architectural Graphics at the University level, and enjoy serving as design guest critic at University design competitions.
